Infant Swimming Lessons
Each session lasts for 30 minutes (including changeover
time) and there will be up to 10 parent and infant pairs in each
class. We run 4 courses during the school year, each course runs
for a duration of 9 or 10 weeks. For term times, please see our
Pools page.
We hold classes on a variety of days, over a number
of different time slots. Children are grouped into similar age and
ability in the swim classes so please contact us to find which classes
are suitable for your child.
Cost
The full cost of the course must be paid before the
course commences. The cost of your course will depend on the number
of weeks duration. Please see our Pools page for term and cost details.
If siblings attend our courses, there is a 10% discount
on course fees.
Baby Swimming Course
The
STA STARFISH series focuses on creating fun,
positive experiences for babies which will not only help them to
develop physically but also emotionally, intellectually and socially
too whilst equipping them with key safety and safe hold skills in
the water.
Our lessons will progress your
baby from initial water familiarity through to advanced skills such
as diving, surfacing, holding on and climbing out. These are achieved
through games, songs and repetition in a relaxed environment and
each child is allowed to progress at their own pace.
Each term of swimming lessons
is built around one of the Starfish awards so our little swimmers
get a certificate upon completion.
Each of the STARFISH series’
six progressive levels have their own learning activities and teaching
objectives, and are supported by colourful A4 certificates and woven
badges.
Submersion is an
element of our classes but is not the main focus. Submersion is
only undertaken when both parent and child are ready and happy in
the water.
Toddler and
Pre-school Swim Courses
These lessons build on the Starfish
skills to help young swimmers progress to a more independent style
of swimming, learning to paddle and kick themselves around the pool,
dive to get toys and pull themselves to the side to climb out. This
is suitable for those without the physical strength to surface to
breathe.
Children then progress on to
the next stage is designed to teach children to swim when they have
the physical ability to surface and breath. Your child will build
on their previous skills, advancing from splashing, diving and bobbing
underwater to learning their first swimming strokes and floating
positions.
Each child will progress at their
own rate and your teacher will advise you what stage they should
be working towards. The emphasis in these classes is still fun and
water confidence, whilst introducing the recognised swimming skills.
Again, parents are in the pool with children but providing less
support at these stages.
Our Teachers
All our teachers are STA
(Swimming Teachers Association) qualified swim teachers with a specialist
Baby and Pre-school Aquatics qualification. They hold current RLSS
(Royal Life Saving Society) Lifeguard certificates. They have also
completed baby aquatics courses with their own children. This means
they have a wealth of knowledge and experience to share and build
their lessons on.
